The rigor of the dual Adolescence Education/Students with Disabilities-7-12 Generalist curriculum prepares the motivated candidate with an undergraduate degree in a content area such as English, Math, Science, Social Studies and World Languages with the tools and strategies needed in today’s diverse middle and high school classroom.
The challenging coursework provides career changers who do not have formal education in teaching with an opportunity to discover strategies for differentiating instruction for all learners, including those with special needs, in a variety of general and special education environments including the inclusive mainstreamed classroom, consultative, collaborative and co-taught environments, the resource room and the self- contained milieu.
No prior certification is required for entrance into the AE/SWD program.
Satisfactory completion of the program leads to an M.S. in Education with recommendation for initial certification in both general education in the content area and in special education at the 7-12 grade levels. This is a 45 credit program.
